Mission Statement:
We are a volunteer-led civic tech group working together to use technology for social good. We explore how simple, collaborative tech projects and one-time digital literacy efforts can improve local lives—especially for those facing barriers to digital access.
What we do:
We take pride in being responsive, creative, supportive, and adaptable—with the understanding that our capacity is shaped and reshaped by the time and energy of whoever is currently involved. We organize ad hoc events, pilot small-scale projects, and offer occasional digital skill-building sessions in a safe and supportive space based on volunteer interest and availability. Through our projects, we envision helping the community step closer to digital equity by improving device access, internet availability, and digital literacy.
How we do it:
● Offer one-time or short-term digital literacy sessions when volunteers are available
● Host workshops and sessions with guest speakers and subject matter experts to promote knowledge-sharing and to inspire the community on tech-related topics.
● Refurbish and donate devices when we have storage and capacity.
● Organize weekly hack nights during the school year.
● Experiment with civic tech projects that are achievable in the short term
● Share tools, knowledge, and connections with other community groups on an
informal basis.
● Create a community where technology enthusiasts, newcomers and old comers
alike can come together, connect and improve their sense of belonging.
What we cannot do:
● Commit to ongoing or long-term service delivery (e.g., running programs or maintaining help desks)
● Offer official certifications, credentials, or structured digital literacy curricula.
● Enter into formal partnerships that require sustained commitments, reporting, or
guaranteed outcomes.
● Guarantee support for external projects or organizations (e.g. letters of support).
● Promise continuity of any project beyond the willingness and availability of current volunteers at any given time
We believe in setting honest expectations—internally and externally—so we can keep doing work that is meaningful, manageable, and welcoming to all who want to participate. We create a positive, cheerful, and welcoming space where collaboration happens through open, respectful dialogue. We aim to do good work without overextending ourselves or expecting others to. Our group is built to accommodate the natural ebb and flow of volunteer time and energy.
